Le Kogo (aussi appelé Bakoko ou Basoo) est une langue bantoue parlée dans les Régions du Littoral et du Sud du Cameroun. Il appartient à la branche B20 du groupe bantou (code ISO : bako1249 selon Glottolog 5.3). Le Yasug — le dialecte parlé dans le Canton Yassoukou, à Déhané et chez les Yawanda — est l'une des variétés nord du Kogo.

The Kogo (also called Bakoko or Basoo) is a Bantu language spoken in the Littoral and Southern Regions of Cameroon. It belongs to the B20 branch of the Bantu group (ISO code: bako1249 per Glottolog 5.3). Yasug — the dialect spoken in Canton Yassoukou, at Déhané, and among the Yawanda — is one of the northern varieties of Kogo.

Un fait linguistique crucial : les documents de l'ACTEM notent que « la langue commune adoptée par tous les Elog Mpoo est le Yakalak, car selon les linguistes, c'est la seule langue de la famille phonétique Bakoko qui n'a pas subi de modifications ou de retouches — elle est restée fidèle et pure ». Le Yasug, voisin du Yakalak, reste néanmoins une langue vivante et distincte.

A crucial linguistic fact: ACTEM documents note that "the common language adopted by all the Elog Mpoo is Yakalak, because according to linguists, it is the only language in the Bakoko phonetic family that has not undergone modifications — it has remained faithful and pure." Yasug, neighboring Yakalak, remains a living and distinct language.
